Maytag produced two designs of 'Dependable Care' dryers model which are very different in construction. The earlier version, which was produced until the 1970's, had an internal frame that supported the porcelain-coated drum. The heater element encircled the drum front giving it is common name 'halo of heat'. This dryer design can be identified by the round lint filter located at the rear of the drum. An access panel covered the entire back of the cabinet. The classic 'halo of heat' electric dryer will be covered in this section.
Covered models include (but are not limited to) DE16CA, DE16CM, DE16CT, DE306, DE307, DE406, DE407, DE606, DE806, DE90, DE906, DG16CA, DG16CM and DG16CT.
The design of the classic Maytag electric dryer is very robust. The most frequent failure, and the only one that I have seen, is the heater element.
